Gopal Mulukutla is a Water and Climate Policy Specialist at the WA State Department of Health. He works within the Office of Environmental Public Health Sciences’, to coordinate the agency’s response to harmful algal bloom issues in the state’s freshwater lakes and more broadly on supporting projects related to climate resilience. Prior to this position, he worked as a Post-Doctoral Researcher and subsequently as a Research Scientist II at the Earth Systems Research Center within the Institute for the Study of Earth, Oceans, and Space at the University of New Hampshire, and as an adjunct lecturer at the University of New Haven. At EOS, Dr. Mulukutla worked on research projects related to non-point source nutrient pollution, integrated watershed management strategies, and flood and water quality monitoring. His teaching experience includes courses in water quality, fluid mechanics, computational fluid dynamics and groundwater hydrology. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Andhra University, India, a M.S in Ocean Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, India and a Ph.D. in Ocean Engineering from the University of New Hampshire. He has peer-reviewed publications in ocean mapping, hydrology and water quality, environmental monitoring, physical volcanology and computational geometry.
