DESCRIPTION:Presenter(s):\nEmily Bedwell (UI)\nSeminar Date:\nDec 1\, 2026\n\nAbout the Talk:\n\nDrought and increasing uncertainty in water availability are creating new challenges for irrigators and water managers across Idaho’s Eastern Snake Plain Aquifer (ESPA). While substantial weather\, hydrologic\, and irrigation data are available\, more data does not necessarily translate to better on-farm decisions. This seminar will explore a new stakeholder-driven research and Extension effort examining how irrigators make decisions during periods of water limitation\, what information they need most\, and how that information can be translated into practical decision-support resources. The project will work directly with growers\, irrigation districts\, canal companies\, and water managers to identify information gaps and co-develop tools that improve irrigation management and drought preparedness. More broadly\, the seminar will discuss how applied research\, Extension education\, and technology can better connect water data with the people making irrigation decisions. \n\nAbout the Speaker:\n\nDr. Emily Bedwell is an Assistant Professor and the Extension Irrigation Technology Specialist at the University of Idaho. Her research and Extension program focuses on improving irrigation management and agricultural water productivity through practical\, grower-centered research and education. Her work includes irrigation scheduling\, soil moisture sensing\, deficit irrigation\, irrigation system performance\, drought management\, and the development of decision-support resources that help producers make informed water-management decisions.
