SUMMARY:Webinar: Salmon Reintroduction in the Upper Columbia Basin
DESCRIPTION:Presenter(s):\nTom Biladeau (Coeur d’Alene Tribe)\nSeminar Date:\nNov 3\, 2026\n\nAbout the Talk:\n\nUpon construction of Grand Coulee Dam in the late 1930’s\, salmon were extirpated from almost half of the available habitat in the Columbia River basin. Now\, the Upper Columbia United Tribes (UCUT) are leading an effort to reintroduce anadromous salmon back into those historic habitats. The program is considered the largest salmon reintroduction effort in the world\, and is in coordination with federal\, state\, and local governments\, along with other tribes in the US and in Canada. Multiple studies are underway to determine productivity\, survival\, and behavior of Chinook and Sockeye salmon in the blocked area. These studies are intended to inform fish passage at five hydroelectric projects in the US\, and to monitor habitat use by anadromous salmon. \n\nAbout the Speaker:\n\nThomas Biladeau is the Anadromous Division Lead for the Coeur d’Alene Tribe. He has lived and worked in the Pacific Northwest for his entire life. Currently\, Tom works in collaboration with multiple state and federal action agencies\, and the tribes of the upper Columbia to reintroduce salmon back to the upper Columbia basin and into the homelands of the Coeur d’Alene people. \n\nZoom Link\nMeeting ID: 865 7192 8806\nPasscode: 1234
