SUMMARY:Workshop with Pacific Northwest National Laboratory
DESCRIPTION:Reactive Transport with Sophisticated Reaction Networks: Hands-On Experience with the PFLOTRAN Reaction SandboxCUAHSI is excited to collaborate with PNNL on this new short course!Gain training in using reactive transport modeling to resolve environmental problemsDates: Monday\, Nov 6 – Thursday\, Nov 9\, 2023Location: Pacific Northwest National Laboratory\, Richland\, WAInstructors: \n\nGlenn Hammond\, Pacific Northwest National Laboratories\nXingyuan Chen\, Pacific Northwest National Laboratories\n\nRegistration Deadline: September 14\, 2023There are a limited number of spots available for this short course. We recommend registering as soon as possible. The course is aimed at graduate students\, post-docs\, professionals\, and senior scientists who will use reactive transport modeling as part of their work. Reactive transport modeling is increasingly important for solving real-world environmental issues related to water quality\, and ecological habitats\, and evaluating the performance of environmental restoration and remediation efforts. This short course will train participants in conceptualizing\, implementing\, and troubleshooting reaction networks in reactive transport models through hands-on experience. During this short course\, participants will: \n\nLearn reactive transport modeling fundamentals\nBe introduced to simulation tools\, focusing on PFLOTRAN (pflotran.org)\nGain experience with flow and reactive transport problems\nLearn to design and encode new reaction networks in the PFLOTRAN Reaction Sandbox\n\nLearn more and register on the CUAHSI Website here!

SUMMARY:Preparing for Tribal Engagement in Research
DESCRIPTION:Genuine tribal engagement and collaborative research with Tribal partners requires preparation. This includes familiarizing oneself with the academic literature on Indigenous Research Methods\, with existing work and tribal needs\, with tribal and university research policies\, and more. Dr. Ken Lokensgard\, Co-Director of the Center for Native American Research & Collaborations (Native American Programs/Tribal Relations) will provide an overview of the things you should consider before submitting research protocols\, requests for letters of support/collaboration\, and grant proposals that involve working with Tribal partners. \nRSVP to receive a calendar invite and the Zoom link.
